Ayumi Sensei
One of the most enigmatic characters in the series, Miss Ayumi is the girls' high school teacher. No one seems to understand Miss Ayumi, including herself. Throughout the series, she seems alternately oblivious to her surroundings, desperately lonely, seemingly possessed or totally ticked off!
Of all the characters, Ayumi develops most throughout the series. In movie one we see her as an absent-minded, well meaning teacher who is enthusiastically involved with her teaching. She seems to have a single-minded devotion to education, so much so that when giant robots start destroying the school, she scarcely notices. Not until an explosion dislodges the blackboard she was writing on does she tear herself away from her lessons.
In the second movie we see more of Ayumi outside the classroom. She is an avid swimmer, and has a fantastic figure as a result. It also seems that she lives alone, and has no boyfriend.
Then in movie three, we discover that she is also a part of the civil defence force, with her own combat bike and battle bikini. Even when preparing for battle however, she is confused, and mistakes the battle for a festival.
In "Final", however, we learn most about her. Unfortunately and inexplicably, Ayumi has been unlucky in love, and often feels depressed with her lonely teacher's life. In her efforts to find romantic company she spent a fortune on a love charm which turns out to be useless.
She eventually resorts to an arranged marriage, and with the help of B-ko's father, Hikaru Daitokuji, she agrees to marry the introverted Kei. This unfortunate move only brings Ayumi more grief when it drags her into the bizarre love quartet of A-ko, B-ko, Kei and C-ko.
Poor Ayumi has a heart of gold and deserves more than she gets. She is universally liked and respected by her students, and she can get along with them outside of class. She has a strong community spirit as shown by her dedication to education and her activities in the civil defence force. She is a very attractive, intelligent and persistent girl, and would take care of a partner with all her energy.
Yet in her early-middle years, she is still alone. Perhaps it is because she is oblivious to her world, or her single-minded devotion to education, or even because she's so well liked by everyone, they don't see her in a romantic light.
Such a shame.
